Goergé is a Dutch-born Neo-Expressionist exploring queer subconscious trauma narratives through painting.
Each figure encapsulates and represents an emotion or emotional state. They hang in balance, relative to one another, mimicking the way we often move through life–carrying our own emotions while being expected to create space for the feelings of others. The figures explore themes such as shame, grief, addiction, sexual trauma, and the idea that what is often carried by the individual subconsiously informs the collective state of being. Their work often contains repetitive symbols, including the wishbone, poppy, or penis, representing sub-themes such as religion, hallucination, and the peripheral patriarchy.
